As part of the New York University’s Latino Heritage Month celebration, the Gallery Space at Wagner (2nd floor of the Puck Building) will stage an exhibition and panel discussion titled Raza con “A”: A Latina Artists Exhibit. The show will bring together four New York City-based Latina artists whose bodies of work explore themes of ethnic, cultural, and gender identity. The project seeks to present a diversity-driven display that pays homage to Latino & Latin American heritage as well as the contributions of women artists to the New York City visual arts scene. The accompanying panel discussion will serve as a platform to engage artists, scholars, practitioners, and the public in a lively dialogue on the exhibition themes, with a focus on the role visual arts can play in promoting social equity. The panel discussion and opening reception will take place the evening of Tuesday, November 12, 2013.
The award-winning artists confirmed for the exhibition is a supremely talented group, that includes: Argentinean photographer and Proyecto Luz founder Sol Aramendi; Mexican painter and multi-media artist Andrea Arroyo; Colombian collage and mixed-media artist Maria Berrio; and Puerto Rican painter and collage artist Rodriguez Calero.
