A Winning Mobile in LMNOP Art in Balance Challenge

By John Czarnecki on August 18th, 2015 in Architecture, Awards and Competitions, Current Affairs,Events, Exhibitions, From the Editor in Chief, Inspiration and Innovation, Social Responsibility,Sustainability, Young Designers

The designers Cepp Selgas, Blanca Arregoitia, and Armando Guiller with the winning mobile that they created.
Earlier this summer, I was pleased to serve as a juror for LMNOP’s The ABC (“Art in Balance”) Challenge, a part of its 2015 Annual Benefit, which called on New York designers to create a mobile with found objects.
The winning mobile designed by Cepp Selgas, Blanca Arregoitia, and Armando Guiller.
I was joined on the jury with Susan Lyons, president of Designtex, and Starr Figura, curator in the department of drawings and prints at MoMA. We selected the mobile by the team named “3Q,” which included Blanca Arregoitia, Cepp Selgas, and Armando Guiller. The team’s concept statement: “To create a mobile that depicts balance between human kind and nature and, at the same time, to honor the mastery of Alexander Calder.”
Arregoitia is an architectural designer at M. Moser. Selgas and Guiller are independent arts professionals.

According to LMNOP: “When we challenge the community to be inspired, it becomes a conduit to share our best. Using re-purposed materials as part of the criteria is a positive addition to the creative process and forces us to view the world through a new lens.”
