Homenaje a Mike Porcel

Forever Olga

Cepp Selgas / Old unpublished drawing / Ink on paper / 6X6in. / 1982.

Olga Guillot, the legendary Cuban singer who became the first Latin artist to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York, died yesterday.
Guillot, whose career in Cuba was interrupted by the 1959 Cuban revolution, was part of a triumvirate with Celia Cruz and La Lupe, as of the most famous Cuban singing divas.
With a musical career that spans more than 60 years, a discography that includes more than 60 long-playing records, the prestige of having worked in 16 films, and the evidence of long-standing popularity attested to by the possession of ten gold records, the keys to more than 30 cities around the world and a myriad of trophies and official recognitions awarded by governments and organizations from around the globe.
Olga, the world will miss you.
