Beyond the Surface Sculpture and embedded drawings by Nancy Cohen
My iPhone and Eye Photographs throughout the Hudson Valley by Cali Gorevic

'Throughout her career, Nancy Cohen has experimented with materials and forms that underscore the relational possibilities between the appearance of transparency and its opposite, opaqueness. Her naturalist tendencies are abetted by an ethnographer's curiosity and a keen appreciation of cultural parallelsand anomalies. All of her various works explore sensations provoked by liminality, that is, threshold states of mind conditioned by factors conducive to transition and transformation.'
Dominique Nahas, Sculpture Magazine, 2008
Cali Gorevic has printed everything from digital composites to solar prints and has made photographs with everything from large format cameras to pinholes to plastic toys. 'Sophisticated as it is, the iPhone is the most primitive of all in its way. Digital photographers call the taking of a picture 'capturing'. There is an immediacy about it--you see it, you grab it, no thought of tripods, no thoughts at all really. This incredibly advanced device allows me to record the least civilized images I can find, reflecting the energy of nature without benefit of human hands. It really feels like an extension of my eye.
