| Rodriguez Calero / “Piensa en mi,” an acrollage on canvas from 1999 is part of The Gustavo Valdes Collection. |
New York based artist Rodriguez Calero is a very relevant presence in The Gustavo Valdes Collection. Her work has been included in the collection for close to two decades now. Rodriguez Calero is one of the most important Latina artists working in New York. El Museo del Barrio presents Rodriguez Calero’s first major museum exhibition of her robust corpus of work. As part of the museum’s Women Artists Retrospective Series, the exhibition titled RODRIGUEZ CALERO: URBAN MARTYRS AND LATTER DAY SANTOS includes acrollage (a technique developed by Rodriguez Calero) canvases, smaller collages, and fotacrolés (altered photography) on canvas board, as well as works of mixed media on paper. The exhibition is accompanied by a scholarly catalogue with a main essay by the exhibition curator, Dr. Alejandro Anreus.
