Gallery Space / Newman Reception Area
Please join us on Wednesday, November 5 from 6:00pm-8:00pm for a gallery reception celebrating the opening ofConvergences, the Fall/Winter 2014 exhibition at the Gallery Space at Wagner. It features acrylic-on-linen paintings by guest artist Paul Gruhler.
Convergences represents the latest installment in the modernist study of space, form, geometry, and color that has become synonymous with Paul Gruhler’s distinguished studio practice. The eleven paintings on display are from his acclaimed Ketchum Hill Series. Like recent Gruhler collections, these minimalist abstractions are informed by scenery familiar to the artist, in particular the mountainous landscapes of Vermont and the Northeast. Subtly layered textures and vibrant color palettes have been meticulously executed to create works as captivating for their compositional tension and tonal range as for their meditative elegance.
Kindly RSVP by November 3.

Todo listo en Salamanca para homenaje
a Gastón Baquero
García Ramos, quien participa con un poema en la antología de homenaje al poeta de obras como Memorial de un testigo, dijo en exclusiva a MartiNoticias que Gastón Baquero es, sin lugar a dudas, una de las voces medulares de la expresión poética en castellano.

New York State Of Mind No.31
Last night I went to a preview of "MARISOL: Sculptures and Works on Paper" retrospective show at 'El Museo del Barrio'.
I was very exited 'cause I have been a true fan of her work since the early sixties. This exhibition is a magnificent representation and display of Marisol's corpus of work.
It is a visual victory, I think because it shows at once the varieties of ‘ways’ she was able to play with. Without loosing the ‘marriage’ between ‘whimsical’ and ‘the human tragedy’ as the main intention and as a total.

On View from October 9, 2014 – January 10, 2015
This retrospective project seeks to re-establish Marisol as a major figure in postwar American art while also fostering a broader understanding of her work. This exhibition and catalogue will provide a comprehensive look at Marisol’s biography and career, placing her within a larger historical context.
The exhibition at El Museo del Barrio will feature 30 significant works—both sculptures and works on paper. Sculptures in the exhibition will range in date from 1955 to 1998 and will include examples of the various media Marisol used (bronze casting, wood carving, assemblage, plaster casts, and terracotta) as well as the many themes and subjects she considered (portraiture, including her family as well as famous and anonymous people; women’s roles; Native Americans, the poor, and other disenfranchised people; and art history).
The exhibition will also consider, for the first time, Marisol’s works on paper, which often address the same themes as her sculptures, but with a strong undercurrent of violence and eroticism. The works in the exhibition have been chosen carefully to elucidate Marisol’s artistic evolution, both in terms of subject matter and materials
This exhibition has been organized by the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, Memphis, Tennessee.
